Nursing
Nurse
Nursing can be described as both an art and a science; a heart and a mind. At its heart, lies a fundamental respect for human dignity and an intuition for a patient's needs. This is supported by the mind, in the form of rigorous core learning. Due to the vast range of specialisms and complex skills in the nursing profession, each nurse will have specific strengths, passions, and expertise.
Nursing School: A Slim Experience
The Slim and Thick W.C. Podcast is a space for those in the community. Join two black femmes as they unapologetically take up space to provide knowledge, resources, and dialogue on current important topics. From politics to Tik Tok, two sisters provide an inclusive space for community organizers and marginalized populations to gather for a moment in a space made for them. It's a labor of love from us to the community that we love to serve.

Slim has been pursuing her Nursing Degree for awhile now and we finally had time to sit down and talk to her about her experience in school. This interview has been a long time in the works and we are so excited to share her perspective going through Nursing School. I wanted these types of sit downs since I started our Career Series where our Career Guides for students are housed. So check out the interview and the website for all the content!
WE appreciate and extend heartfelt gratitude for all the workers, professionals, and students in our community who have been working so hard through this time of the Pandemic. WE also hope to provide support and let you know that we see you as well as all the struggles that have gone on this past year. Be it student debt and day-to-day grind of just trying to motivate yourself to get through another anxiety filled class to the parents/caregivers who shoulder on at work while juggling their own financial and mental health needs. WE see you and we appreciate you, here's to hoping that more support is garnered for all who desperately need it. Until then we will try to do what we can on our end. Thank you again.

Helpful Tips
Portable Reheatable Lunchbox
This little gadget is very helpful because it comes with a plug for the wall and the car. You can place your meals into the lunchbox and plug it in anywhere, then the lunchbox will heat the food. It's recommended for reheating food, which takes less than 30 minutes. It's also good at keeping the food nice and hot for you until you are ready to eat. This is a great way to not have to fight the long lines at work to then wait for your food to heat up. It's much less hassle and as a nursing student you have much bigger issues than trying to always figure out how to fit in hot meals throughout your shift. This is great for meal prepping or heating a frozen meal.
Back Brace
Back pain can really be problematic and sometimes costly where you might need see a specialist. To help with that using compression socks is HIGHLY recommended for nurses who are on their feet all day. If you can't afford super expensive shoes, it can be well worthwhile to invest in a back brace and then Dr. Scholl's Orthotics for Lower Back Pain. This combination can help to reduce the shock on your heels and feel as well as prevent issues with your lower back, which can result from being on your feel all day. The insoles can fit in most shoes and the backbrace is available in different fits.
Headband
The Headband listed above has buttons on either side of it where you can place your mask bands on to hold your mask in place. It's hard enough performing care without having to adjust your mask or keep it from slipping down all the time. This can be a convenient option for nurses so that you don't have to fuss over your mask.
